I believe is was nine to the men, seven to the dwarfs and three to the elves, which would total to nineteen rings. (?)

I could try and play...I haven't had LotR contact (read the books or watched the movies) in a while though So I probably won't get very many questions.

it will be basic knowledge questions and language questions, and advanced questions, get them on CD from the library and put them on your MP3 player or Ipod if you have on and listen to them, it will help a lot, i have listened to them over 5 times for each book and i am still getting new info.

Are you seeking the Sindarin translation, or the name it is a derivative of from the Quenya?

Galadriel in that form essentially translates to "Radiant" as I recall.

The Quenya name is something about flowers....

Well, I thought I might check.

Since, if memory serves, (which it may or may not- I've not read any of Tolkien's works in some time) Galadriel is a derivative of her name in Quenya.

Why this would be is as she is an elf from essentially the earliest days, her "true" name would be from the original elven language, or high tongue, from which Quenya is descended. Sindarin is really a derivative or "corruption" of Quenya used by the elves who did not go to Valinor.(Again, if memory serves.) So the name is slightly different.(I think)

Yeah, I lean on "Radiant" or "Star"- something like that. Mostly since Gil-Galad is already defined, and Galadriel I think is mostly a feminization of that word/name.

Sorry to ramble on so.

If nobody else throws up an answer then feel free. However, I don't think it's fair if just my attempt gets the answer revealed.

i will wait a couple days and a few requests to reveal it, and i am going from the English to sindarin dictionary, if it is different from the books and you know that you got it right from the books, tell me what book, chapter, and which part of the chapter and i can look it up to see if it is right.

The thing is about Tolkien's languages is that words are not always literal.

I mean, my deduction about Galad is Radiant, but as in Gil-Galad it is Star is a great example.

I would also be hesitant about a dictionary. I might go find a copy of the Silmarillion while I'm in the library and see if I can find Galadriel real fast.
